there’s quite a difference between atheism and antitheism

atheism is the belief that there is no God, gods, deity of any kind whatsoever, no?

antitheism includes atheism but also the strong opposition to all organized religion that include God, gods, or a deity of any kind.

Antitheist do not like Islam, CHristianity, Hinduism, Judaism, and such because…well because of the definition.

I don’t think i’d be wrong to say that if an atheist offends me, its an antitheist bashing on my religion.

see?

yo stop truncating your posts so i can reblog the whole post rather than a short part.prepare for spelling errors.

I have 2 things in response.

  • I actually think that many self-diagnosed atheists are actually agnostics. Especially the ones who say the don’t believe in anything that hasn’t been proven. because then by their own logic they cannot be atheists. Atheists reject any and all dogmas/religions. Agnostics are by definition those who do not know which religions are right or if any are. people are naturally agnostic excluding what they learn from sources outside themselves.
  • with many if not most atheists, I see a disparaging trend of pretentious feigned intellectual and feigned elitist attitudes. sort of a “debate me, I’m atheist” attitude. Especially amongst the vile section of the internet that is youtube comments. Many of these atheists who appear to be antitheists and often offend religious people are actually misinformed liberal college students coping with their freshman year existential religious crisis. They mostly aren’t even against all theism, but rather the general feeling that both the major religions of Christianity and Islam are terrible institutions with too much power over their followers and that they cultivate a sort of unworldly ignorance that hinders humanities success as a whole. Conflict, discrimination, and fundamentalism rising from religion are problems that exist outside of religious influence but in much less noticeable levels. Due to this and the insecurities of those who have recently rejected their religion, many new atheists find it necessary to bash these major religions for their misdoings and mislead followers.
that being said, I am agnostic and not atheist. I try not to bash religions. But many religions have seriously fucked shit up for the rest of us and even for many believers (spanish inquisition, crusades, salem witch trials, etc…) Religions have entirely too much power over the people that follow them and I think that open-minded people who practice their faith with moderate intensity are more respectable and more sensible than the more ardent believers. I think that it is arrogant and wrong to hold any belief too strongly, as many people do. While I am not wholly against organized religion, I do think that religion deserves less respect than it gets much of the time from its own followers and more respect from those who do not follow it; and that followers of religions should think more freely. It would benefit society much more to think externally from both ourselves and our religion. Compassion and empathy come from within and do not need religion or the threat of damnation to be enforced.
harumph!
